UberMOTO

Image
Uber has introduced a city special for Dhaka Bengladesh.  They have introduced UberMOTO.  Dhaka is one of the busiest cities in the world and motocycles have become a very popular choice of transportation; so Uber has decided it is in their best interest to let people Uber with motorcycles.  Uber already has UberPremium and UberX; however, this new introduction of UberMoto will be very interesting.  Getting a ride on a motorcycle will be a very different ride then getting picked up in a Ford Focus.  We'll see how it goes. Blind Couple Denied Uber Ride, then Dragged with Car

Blind Couple Denied Uber Ride, then Dragged with Car A blind couple was denied a ride by an Uber driver, who then got dragged down the street, according to Boston police. Apparently the reasoning behind the denial was due to Milissa Garside’s seeing service dog. The driver said no dogs allowed and drove away. Her boyfriend, who is also legally blind, got his hand caught in the window as the car drove away and was dragged. Thankfully the man only had minor injuries that required some stitches. Garside said she met with detectives and is pursuing charges. This does not look good at all on Uber’s part. It seems like every week there is some bad article about this company. Uber is sinking and sinking fast. In order for this company to get back in shape, they need to clean up their act and start making the hiring process to become a driver a lot more difficult. www.wcvb.com Uber Social Media Posts: According to Hootsuite, there are still a lot of negative posts ab

NYC Terror Suspect was in Fact an Uber Driver

Image
[Credit to USAToday for photo] Well, if you haven't heard about what happened in NYC, something terrrible happened.  Sayfullo Saipov, the suspect, rented a school bus and drove it on to a walkway and killed 8 people.  This is a very sad event for America.  What makes this even more scary is background checks, while necassary, can be wrong.  Saipov previously drove 1400 trips for Uber and never showed signs of a serious criminal. Uber has responded to this event by saying they have reviewed all of his trips to see if there were any reports of him and they can not find anything related to safety of a customer.  As it would seem, Uber isn't at fault for its background check since Saipove never did anything wrong.  Hopefully, we never see something like this again. Uber’s sexual harassment problem will be the subject of an upcoming film

Uber’s sexual harassment problem will be the subject of an upcoming film Susan Fowler, a 2017 sexual harassment victim of an Uber driver will be the inspiration for a potential film adaptation Variety reports. This film focuses on specific sexual harassment cases and incidents that have occurred in the recent past. This whole thing sprung about when Fowler posted a blog about her incident. She claimed that after she reported her manager for sending her sexually explicit chats at work, Uber’s human resource department took little action against the event and her request to transfer teams within the company was denied. The fact that this situation was big enough to be inspired to script a movie about it is one frightening scenario Uber has to face. Uber will have even more backlash than they do now once that movie is officially released and could turn long time and potential customers away for good. https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/23/16526400/uber-sexual-har

Self-Driving Uber? Uber Hot-Air Balloons?

Image
We have all heard about the self-driving cars of the future.  We've seen a good amount actually be put in to the real world.  We have come far and now Uber will be trying its hands at a self-driving car.  They built a fake city in Manhattan to test them out.  Could you imagine being picked up by a robot car to be driven to your destination?! However, its not all good.  Google has secretly been working on an autonomous car; and they have sued Uber for stealing from them.  We will see where that goes; but don't be surprised if sometime in the future the taxi service is revolutionized yet again. Weekly Social Media Update Uber posted on Facebook about an event they held.  Local Uber drivers met in drive-in theaters for a weekend.  This largely went well as there were turnouts in all kinds of local drive-in theaters. Over the weekend the internet was buzzing with Ubers special event of a hot air balloon ride.  On November 10th you can logon to the App from 10:30am to 1:30 p

UberPop in Norway No More!

UberPop in Norway No More! Under the new era of CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber has been to put it simply cleaning house. Every week it seems as though Uber is pulling out of a city due to laws, background checks, or even just because they feel they can not handle the it. This is just another scenario of Uber pulling back one of its newer functions known as “UberPop”. UberPop is one of the brands Uber uses in Europe for its lowest cost ride-hailing service, which connects passengers with private drivers. However in many cities in Europe where it operates UberPop has been actively banned — including in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden, to name a few. Reasons for Uber pulling back their new brand are due to the fact that Norway’s laws on how many passengers someone can drive is stricter than that of the United States. It shows Uber is not messing around, they know they have a lot of cleaning up to do in order to make their company wha

Uber CEO Travis Kalanick Power Reduction

Uber has reduced the power, founder and former CEO, Travis Kalanick has.  They are hoping to move past a rough history and they have decided this is the best course of action.  On top of that they are increasing the number of board members from 11 to 17.  This is a large board already, and getting larger.  The changes also pave way for an investment from a Japanese tech conglomerate named Softbank.  All of this is helping Uber prepare for its initial public stock offering coming out in 2019.      All in all this is a huge win for the new CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and he just began a month ago.  He will have spread out power more and secured the largest investment in Ubers history.   Weekly social media update: Uber strips power from ousted CEO Travis Kalanick  - This article has over 750 total shares in just over 5 hours of being published.
