Uber Background
History of Uber
Uber is a company that was started in 2009 and is based in San Francisco. It operates in around 633 cities worldwide and offers a wide arrange of services. The name "Uber" is a reference to the common (and somewhat slangy) word "uber", meaning "topmost" or "super", and having its origins in the German word uber, meaning "above.” Uber primarily started as a so called modern taxi service, where people would use their personal cars and get “called” by customers who needed a ride somewhere. They have expanded into more services now, however. They now offer a service called “Uber Eats” where people can have food that doesn’t deliver delivered to them. For example, you can have Chipotle delivered to you through Uber Eats.

These include the standard four door sedan to an UberXL which can fit up to 6 people.They also have an option called Uber Black, which is for a more luxurious ride.

Uber is also trying to revamp their image through some promotional ideas. Starting August 11th, Uber will be delivering free ice cream every Friday. This idea by Uber is great in the sense that it gets their name out to the general public. This promo will end September 22nd.
Brief Description of the Transition
In the last couple of months, uber has been experiencing a lot of problems with their customer feedback. There has been a lot of negative feedback related to the drivers that uber employs. Some drivers have been reported being very creepy to the customers and upon further inspection, some have had a bad background history (ex criminals). Uber has also had some problems in the head of their department. Just recently, their CEO had to resign due to problems he had with himself and managing the company. Uber eventually chose a new CEO (Dara Khosrowshahi) and he has been working constantly with the board in order to try and fix the problems they have been experiencing.
Uber has a relatively new service called “Uber Eats” which is a new modern version of delivery food. This will allow customers to order any food and have it delivered to their house or wherever they are, even if this business normally doesn’t deliver. This will allow people to order whatever food they want at any time.
Uber Driver Arraigned on 6 Murder Accounts:
On February 22nd, 2016 a man was charged with 6 different accounts of murder. The reason this is so serious to Uber as a company is because he was able to get past all of their background checks and work for them. This news hit Uber hard, as sales started to decline due to an "uncertainty" and "unease" from the public because of the fear of who was actually driving them. Updates for the Future
We will be monitoring Ubers brand to see what is happening to them and how their Brand Image is being impacted. We will be using Hootsuite and Meltwater to monitor changes and see what is happening.
